I was recently in one of those discussions about why women love shoes — specifically why we love high heels. Like these sexy red womens dress shoes. While I can’t speak for all women, I have to say that, for me, a pair of high heels is the invitation to wear stockings and garters. More than that, it’s an invitation to go out of the house to someplace special.
A pair of high heels is a pretty invitation to something other than the usual, the practical… The promise of a gift, really.
Pretty shoes mean going out to dinner — one I don’t have to make or clean up after. It’s going out, mixing and mingling with grown-ups. It’s going out dancing. (You remember dancing, right? lol) It’s something different, exciting, and it gives me a reason to dress up. And you a reason to look at me… Look at me again. In that way you once used to… It gives us both a chance to flirt. (You remember flirting too, right? *wink*) Even when we both know who we are going home with, it’s nice to have the feeling of being courted…
High heel shoes mean stepping out — with my baby!
If I seem to scintillate
It’s because I’ve got a date
A date with a package of
The good things that come with love
You don’t have to ask me
I won’t waste your time
But if you should ask me
Why I feel sublime
Steppin’ out with my baby
Can’t go wrong ’cause I’m in right
It’s for sure, not for maybe
That I’m all dressed up tonight
Steppin’ Out with My Baby, written by Irving Berlin and sung by Fred Astaire in Easter Parade (1948).
